Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC)

Treatment home services provided by foster parents who are specially recruited, trained and matched with a child with whom they can best work.  The therapeutic foster parents are supported by agency staff throughout the child’s length of stay. The purpose of TFC is to enable children to overcome their problems in a highly supportive, individualized, and flexible treatment home.  TFC may be offered in three levels of intensity depending upon the needs of the child. Treatment homes may also provide specialized services, such as independent living or medical supervision.

Temporary De-Escalation Care (TDC)

Short-term services that may be either planned or responsive to emergency needs.  TDC may be provided to families or other caregivers of children with emotional disturbances or to the children themselves when they require temporary alternative living arrangements.  Planned TDC provides scheduled respite for families or other caregivers from the stresses and challenges of childcare. Emergency TDC is a service for families or other caregivers who become ill or otherwise require an alternative caregiver for a limited period of time.  Planned or emergency TDC is also available to children who require short-term, highly structured care while they are between longer-term placements.

Jail Removal Initiative (JRI)

Residential services provided in a therapeutic foster home setting provided to youthful offenders as an alternative to detention and/or institutionalization.  Services are provided for as long as the youth would have remained in detention and/or institutionalized and may transition into longer-term TFC.  Services are provided by foster parents trained to work with the issues of youthful offenders and crisis response is available 24-hours per day by professional staff.

Supervised Independent Living (SIL)

A range of rehabilitative services provided to adolescents and young adults between the ages 16-21.  Services are designed to improve the quality of life for adolescents and young adults by assisting them to assume responsibility for their lives and to function as actively and independently in the community as possible.  SIL is designed to both strengthen the adolescent’s skills and develop environmental supports necessary to enable them to function independently in the community.  SIL services are provided a residential group facility.

Intensive Family Services (IFS)

IFS is made up of comprehensive, individualized clinical services that are child-centered and have a family focus.  Services are predominately provided within the home and environment (community, educational setting, peer group) of the identified child.  IFS provides a combination of services, such as crisis management, family crisis stabilization, skill training, individual and family counseling and other supportive services.  IFS services can be implemented for a period up to twenty-four weeks, which may or may not run consecutively.

Community Wrap Around Services (Wrap)

Therapeutic activities and treatment services provided to children and adolescents with emotional disturbances.  SCYAP hires a “Wrap Advocate” to provide services to a specific client.  Available services include behavior intervention, independent living skills training, tutoring, caregiver services, community support services and transportation.  The specific combination of services provided to an individual child will depend on his or her specific needs.

Community Training Homes (CTH)

Residential services provided in a therapeutic family home setting intended to supply intensive supervision, specialized and individualized programming and behavior support for individuals 18 or older who are clients of the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.  These individuals may be diagnosed with brain disorders, autism, traumatic brain injury, and/or behavioral disorders.  Placements in these homes represent a continuum of SCYAP’s services for foster children beyond the age of 18.
